New Beginnings And Friendships
The Towers offers ample opportunities for connection.
Recent research shows that staying socially connected is one of the most important contributors to healthy aging. Whether you grab coffee with a friend, plan a day trip with a neighbor or strike up a conversation at the mailbox, each interaction supports your overall wellness. At The Towers, residents often say those connections come naturally thanks to the design of the community, the full calendar of activities and the welcoming culture. For John and Donna Luebbe, what began as a practical move for the future turned into something even better.
From Village Condos To The Towers
John and Donna each moved to Laguna Woods Village in 2010, settling into retirement in separate condos. When they met the following year, it was an instant match. They married in 2012 and began thinking about how to best plan ahead without leaving the Village they loved. They wanted fewer household responsibilities but were unwilling to give up amenities, services and their social life. The Towers checked every box.
When they moved into their new home in April 2024, they were most excited about being surrounded by friends, enjoying meals and housekeeping services and having easy access to onsite activities and events.
Settling In
Their two-bedroom, 1,100-square-foot unit needed a full remodel, but the process was smooth. “We received all our permits the same day we applied,” John said. “Our contractor knew The Towers well, and everything turned out great.”

During that transition, the Luebbes felt embraced by their new community. The Welcome Committee and regular happy hours made it easy to meet neighbors and feel at home long before the remodel was complete.
Life Among Friends
John and Donna quickly found their rhythm. “One of the wonderful things about The Towers is that we dine together, share activities and enjoy wine tastings and happy hours,” John said. “We’ve made so many new friends here, and there’s a real sense of community.”
They attend many events, especially those with music and dancing, and they love inviting long-time Village friends to join them for dinner or special activities. Their guests often rave about the meals and compliment the chef.
Socialization and Healthy Aging
The Luebbes show how a move to The Towers can amplify an already active lifestyle simply by placing residents in a community rich with shared spaces, indoor and outdoor gathering areas and a robust event calendar.
Researchers now recognize how meaningful peer friendships are to long-term health. Since the isolation experienced during the pandemic, the impact of socialization has become even clearer. Regular engagement with peers, not just family, has been linked to reduced depression and anxiety, lower stroke and heart disease risk, stronger immune response, slower cognitive decline and even reduced risk of early death.
Social Life at The Towers
Healthy socialization is possible anywhere, but convenience makes all the difference. At The Towers, connection is built into daily life. Conversations start over morning coffee, a card game, a walk down the hall or a shared table at dinner. Neighbors greet each other, check in and save seats without a second thought.
The Towers’ monthly calendar is filled with ways to stay active and involved: yoga, strength and balance classes, walking clubs, holiday buffets, movie nights, bocce ball, volunteer opportunities, crafting groups, book discussions and more. Whether you’re picking up a new hobby or simply relaxing with neighbors, community is always within reach.
Like the Luebbes, residents at The Towers are always ready to welcome you to a sweet life among friends.
